Free India 250K Topographic Maps

India 250K Topographic Maps - University of Texas Library Online

For current updated topographical map of India, source is Survey of India, but all maps 50kms along the International Border are restricted, couple of the maps within the country are also restricted.

Some situation these maps restriction hamper the progress of our work, alternate I found this set of maps quite useful and accurate, these maps are by US Army published in 1930s, hence infrastructure wise its not upto-date, but in terms of cultural features like village, streams, rivers and contour info, we still can use them.

And its free and copyright free, you just have to acknowledge the source of this maps, when you use it in your project.

Map Projection are UTM(WGS84)

Thanks UT for providing this data......

Thank you for calling Dell

Dell India Support No: 6003366 (last 4 digit represent Dell on your phone)
When you call up this number after you keyed in the number to reach your Q. You get to hear this msg "Thank you for calling Dell, All our representative are busy, please hold the line and we will be with you shortly" and this goes on and on for 10 minutes a female picks up the call, this time it was Partima who attended the call, I gave her my service tag, she verified the warranty status and forwarded by call to the tech team.... again the same message continues for 10 more minutes...... and then Ravi from the tech team picks up the call, who address my issue in flat 1min 21secs.

When you come to hardware quality, I would say all major companies like HP, IBM, and Dell are excellent, Dell gains maximum points because of its fantastic support system, in particular for corporate clients. But in last 10 months, I notice the wait time to their call center takes hell lot of time, in my case it took 21min 21sec for the call to be finished. So I have made few changes to log a call, now I have to plan my call to Dell. I fix my hands free on my mobile so that I can continue do my other task and call up Dell and get my issue resolved.

I always tell HP to follow Dell way of support by what I see is Dell is following HP way of support. HP takes 1 week to support for an Next Business Day support.

But still I will say "I love you Dell" and I want you to improve.
If an Dell Rep is reading this blog, You can check my call reference number: 790501307623
this took 21:21min, which I wish could be reduced.

Cheers :-

Art of Living in Kadapa (Cuddapah), Andhra Pradesh

I wish to share this one, its about this person who has impressed with her commitment to any job which she takes it, Once she is on it, she has to complete it and it has to be done Now. Her name is Usha Rani.

Let share her story and her achievements, she works from home for an Market Research company, so I still consider her as housewife.

Usha had done her Art of Living Part 1 course in Aug 2003, and has benefited a lot in terms of health, relationship and she continued to be part of Art of Living family in area of residence, she is from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and seen people suffering with illness more than physical illness, its their phycological illness, people out there spend most part of their hard earned money on doctor and medicine, if they take little care about their body by practicing Sudarshana Kriya it can take care of their health, And for people who have earned good money, their children's working in US earning good salary, have their own house, even they are not happy, this can only be changed when we bring the awareness about how blessed we are, by looking at the world, which we don't we are mostly self centered. Art of Living has brought an major change in Usha and she has an inclination to start this course in kadapa, not in a small way but in major way, get people in hundreds.

In october 2007 she got an opportunity to do Divya Samaj ka Nirman (DSN) with Naikji in Bangalore, this course brings out the talent you, which in turn made Usha to some how take up her project Kadapa which was pending since long time. She contacted VVK Hyderabad and enquired about an Teacher who could take up the course, who gave number of Srinivas Raju, Aol Teacher, Vijayawada, when she contacted him, he was not able to give dates for the course and gave reference of one more teacher Bhaskar Babu, when she contacted him, he was travelling and he also couldn't give any dates, she continue calling them in between Bhaskar Babu teacher had gone abroad to take the classes in other countries in Africa, thus few months past by. Usha was loosing hope on getting any response from the teacher and was not following up.

After few months, Bhaskar babu called up Usha and enquired about the course in Kadapa and gave the dates, it was fixed that in the month of last week of April 2008. Luckly it was summer holidays for Usha kids, as her parents stay in kadapa, she reached Kadapa 1 month before the course, Bhaskar babu came on a weekend, called few voluteers who had done the course earlier had a meeting and told what has to be done for the course and went. Usha had to organise along with the Volunteers, it was difficult for her to organise the course with an kid of 3 years, volunteers were not available all the time she needed them, so she had go around give introductory talk about the course, arrange for publicity material, pamphlet, banner, inform press. It was not an easy task, some time she was in tears, bcoz of the negative feedback from family and friends. With positive feedback from teacher and couple of family member. She continued to do her seva.

28th April 2008 - An Satsang was organised at Kadapa Kalakshetra
29th April - 4th May
Morning & Evening batch Part 1 course
Day batch Yes course for 14 to 18 years
Art Excel for kids 8 to 14 years was organised

An total of 128 people enrolled for the course and did the course, and had very good experience to share.

Thus Usha was able to achieve her long time pending task of taking Art of Living to Kadapa and I am glad to say that Usha is my wife.

We are glad to say that after this course, we had good volunteers team who are continuing organising course, and have also organised Prison Smart course which is for Prisoners.

First trip to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL)

30th May 2008, with very high expectation of BIAL.....started off from Sahakarnagar at 4:30am to BIAL, early morning, cool breeze... took snaps en route to the new Airport, reached just in 30 minutes....... pretty fast mate..........signage showing the direction is better as we get closer to the Airport, the trumpet flyover is really amazing..... the distance from the NH road to the airport is 6kms, with lots of option for gardening on both sides .....as of now not much of plantation... hope there are some plans........
Took a cab to drop at the airport, as it reached the dropping area, a coupon was given to the driver by a boy standing near an vending machine, who told "10 nimisha matra free" meaning free for 10 minutes only... and gave an ticket, which had the in time printed on it.
Car passed through the narrow lane, where vehicles coming to drop of passengers parking both the sides. this road is so narrow, driver will have a task to take reverse into the lane where he has other vehicles coming to drop of passenger.......New airport and already space constrains........
Didn't find any trolley nearby, need to carry my luggage to a distance.........
Now enter the entrance......it must have been big mate......50% of the door is blocked by the 2 security men standing.... who are there just to delay your entrance rather then to check your tickets......Actually they are really confused with the e-ticket.....each ticket in a different format.... they do not know where to find the flight information... they just have a glance at the e-ticket print out and let you inside..............
Flight Information System:
As I entered the airport found 4 huge LCD display with the flight departure details....The font not big enough....senior citizens might find it difficult to read it...... And that is the only monitor in the check-in area giving the flight info.... I couldn't find any other............
Check in Counter
There are 53 check-in counter despite so much counters....It took 20 minutes for me to get my boarding pass.....And he couldn't book me on through check in to Khajuraho via Delhi, if I had forced he would have given, but found he was not aware of the procedures, I didn't want to loose my luggage, so agreed to collect my luggage and get the check in again at Delhi, The staff seems to be new and I am sure with few more days n experience this section will improve..........not a problem....
Seating arrangement at the check-in area, absolutely minimum.....need to add more place to sit....
in this section I find IC terminal at Delhi superb.....brightly lit... and comfortable seats.....
Security Check
Not much of a problem....was able to security check quickly........went inside.....lots of option for shopping.....there are shops then place to sit.........BIAL is more interested in making a quick money then looking at passengers need..........and the toilets in this area......another absolutely minimum..... be prepare to wait for atleast 5 minutes before you can release your pressure.....New airport and can't plan for the today's need......can it take the load for future years.............
again flight information monitor.....you need to search where it is.... the only source of the departure details is the announcements...........which goes non-stop and you miss out when ur flight details is announced.....
Need more monitors displaying flight information..............in this area........
Boarding Gate
There are 20 boarding gate...... which are divided to domestic and international aircraft........each boarding gate has a monitor, displaying boarding information of 2 flights at the same time.... to find out we need go near the gate and find out which flight boarding is going on..... the IC staff near the gate... at least he smiled at me and told.....the flight number, which was not mine..... had some time so thought of trying out the WiFi

WiFi at BIAL
Enabled wireless on my Dell D610 and connected to the WiFi network.... keyed in gmail address.... got an BIAL page....asking me to enter a password.
Which you can get by sending an SMS WiFi BIAL to 56677
WiFi is free, now I have to check the SMS I sent, how much I will be billed for that....;-).

Boarding was announced....no not by the PAS.... but the staff the gate.......went down....boarded BMTC Volvo bus....which would take us to the aircraft.... bus started off..... reached mid way where it stopped it had to cross the runway where aircraft were taxing..... spent about 15 minutes waiting there...... then it finally took to the aircraft....boarded it..6:15 flight took off at 6:45.
Airport Construction
Still lot of construction is pending......I am sure it will be completed......
Need to have colourful plants inside the terminal......the plants now are just one type....and they already look dead.......Its not that the airport was open in a hurry.....it was delayed by 3 months... thx to the govt.......

Overall.....I would give 4 points out of 10 to the Airport......My expectation was too high... I was comparing Singapore Changai Airport.....but it's no way close to it........This will not be able to take the load in the next 2 years..... Need to plan for the 2nd terminal immediately......

Cheers, in Hotel Paradise, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh... came to give MS Office training for the new bachha party.....

Project PDA Screen to Projector

Periscope: "Periscope" - Had completed setting up TDS Nomad PDA with the software and templates for data logging in the field, and was preparing to roll it out to the staff, was wondering how I would demonstrate the useage of software on the PDA to the audience, then I came across Periscope, I'll tell it was at the right time I found it, I could demonstrate the usage of PDA by projecting it to the big screen for the auidence to view it, else it would have not been possible.

Got it free when I purchased Pocket PC Creation license.

Cheers ;-)

Internet via Nokia as Modem with Airtel

Getting an Internet connection using your mobile phone as a modem. Its “easiest” as internet connection gets activated instantly. You need to have a mobile phone that has data connectivity to PC or Laptop & data cable to connect that. Airtel offers four tariff plans to choose from:
399 plan: Rs.399/Month, 100MB Transfer,10 paisa for extra 10kbs.
599 plan: Rs.599/Month, 1 GB Transfer, 10 paisa for extra 10kbs.
799 plan: Rs.799/Month, 1.5 GB Transfer, 10 paisa for extra 10kbs.
140 plan: Rs.140/week, Unlimited usage.

140 plan is best, since it has unlimited usage & cheap compare to other plans. It will become Rs.560 if you use it for a month. All plans will come with speed up to 40kbps.Just call customer care at 121 to avail this service.

Activate Mobile Office by SMS
(this works in metro, when I tried from an small town in MP, it didn't work, you need to get it activated by calling 121)
Type MO and send it to 6123
With in 2 minutes, your Mobile Office will be activated; default plan will be 140/week, which will be billed to your monthly bill
If you want to deactivate it, then at the end of the 6 day send an SMS with
MO CMCL to 222

Set your laptop ready
Check whether modem drivers for your phone are installed. Normally this will come with your phone’s PC Suite. Installing PC Suite will install all required drivers.
Check whether your phone could be used as modem or not. (Call 121 from your Airtel mobile)
Procedure to setup a connection to dial-up your Mobile as modem.
Goto “Start–>Control Panel”
Click on “Network & Internet Connections”
Under header “Pick a task” click on “Create a connection to the network at your workspace”.
Now you will get “New Connection Wizard dialog box, select “Dial-up connection” & click next.
Dialog will ask for “Connection Name”, give whatever you would like to. I had given “airtelgprs”.
It asks for “Phone Number”, enter number as “*99***1#”
If you want select to put a shortcut on desktop (Preferred) & finish setup.
Now you will see a shortcut saying “Airtel GPRS” (In my case) on desktop. Make sure you installed your phone drivers & connect your phone. Double click the icon on desktop, leave blank “User name” & “Password” fields & click “Dial”. One message will pop-up to confirm its connected.
-*-*-*-*-*-*
When you change your mobile, you need to add the Mobile Office settings to your mobile again, that you can do it by just sending an SMS.
From your new phone on Airtel network, SMS MO and send it to 52567
-*-*-*-*-*-*
Error Message:
Unable to connect to Internet and while configuring new network connection
"Connect Using Dialup Modem - Disabled (Why?) "
Here is the solution for this problem - http://www.intelliadmin.com/blog/2007/09/connect-using-dialup-modem-disabled-why.html

Memory Full problem in Nokia N73

I have an Nokia N73. I started to get this message "Memory is full, clear some memory" when checked the memory details, it had only 149kb of free space, I tried to clear all my SMS, Photos, Videos but still couldn't make some memory.
Strange Nokia N73 software does't show up where the memory has been used, about 44MB is shown as being used, but the list which the phone shows, doesn't add up to 44MB.
After spending few nights with my phone was able to resolve it. I had to remove few application which I had installed on my phone and forgot about it.
To remove application do this:
Go to Menu -> Tools -> Appl. Mgr and remove those application which are installed on Phone Memory which you do not require, this will free up your phone memory.

I was able to recover 34MB of memory, now I am able to receive SMS and add Contacts.

Cheers ;-)

Export contacts from Blackberry to Nokia

I had to transfer contacts from an Blackberry (BB) to an Nokia

I tried to copy the address book in BB to SIM card and transfer them to the Nokia, but that option is not available in BB, its only the other way from SIM to address book.

Nokia PC Suite doesn't have an option to import CSV, XLS file either.

After little bit of research on the web, got an simple solution which works :-)

As the BB contacts are synced with Outlook, I had to export the contacts to VCF file

"Export Outlook 2003 Contacts as vCards"
Microsoft does not offer an 'Export as vCard' function in Outlook 2003 (simply dragging and dropping contacts into a Desktop folder results in .msg files), there is a workaround:
Select all contacts in Outlook
Click Actions -> Forward vCard
Select all of the attached vcf files in the resulting email message and drag to a folder on your Desktop, or simply send the email to yourself.
That's it - the vcf files are ready.

Now open Nokia PC Suite, connect Nokia 6300 to the USB port
Open Phone Browser and go to Contacts
Now Copy and Paste the VCF files in earlier step to the Contacts folder.

Problem I faces is, duplicate contacts are not overwritten, one more contact is added, thus causing duplication of contacts, so deleted all contacts from Nokia phone and copied all BB contacts.

Just copy and paste works mate... ;-)

Biochemistry of Sudarshan Kriya

An article was published in Times of India dated 24th Feb 2008 about the effects of Sudarshan Kriya on antioxidants in our body, which improves our immunity system.

HPDJ 1050C - System Error (09B003 - 7A0462)

"HP DesignJet 1050C Plotter is not working in the site office. After given the print command it is showing some system error (09B003 - 7A0462), i have logged the complaint in the HP, they will call us on tomorrow or Monday, they are asking for proof of purchase.

Before going ahead with the hardware problem, the issue I face with HP each and every time I call them, is first they refuse to accept that the product is under post warranty / AMC. I need to provide all types of proof, model number, serial number, HP Care Pack number. Why can't they track it down with just the serial number, the way Dell does it...........pissed of with HP support....

HP help desk team, don't even make an effort to diagnose the problem, so that the engineer can take the part along with him in his first visit and fix it.

The system error (09B003 - 7A0462) - our diagnoses showed that the plotter hard-disk was faulty, which we removed for time being for the plotter to work....

Need to follow up with HP to get it replaced...........Don't know what reason they will give us to avoid to replace the hard-disk.

May be I am use to Dell support....Who adhere to their contract terms and condition, if they say 4 hour resolution, they do it..............................Which I have not found any other company doing so......

"No Subject Mails" in Outlook

Forgot to mention subject in mail???
Forgot to mention subject while writing an Official Mail and feel bad later???????
Yes…. It's a concern for all…. A mail without a subject brings a bad impression on us. To avoid this, just follow the simple steps mentioned below and see the result.

Here are the steps: - 1. Open your Outlook,
2. Press Alt+F11. This opens the Visual Basic Editor and then Press Ctrl+R which in turn open Project-Project 1 (left side)
3. On the Left Pane, one can see "Microsoft Outlook Objects" or "Project1", expand this. Now one can see the "ThisOutLookSession".
4. Double click on "ThisOutLookSession". It will open up a Code Pane on the right hand side.
5. Copy and Paste the following code in the right pane (Code Pane) and save it Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, Cancel As Boolean) Dim strSubject As String strSubject = Item.Subject If Len(Trim(strSubject)) = 0 Then Prompt$ = "Subject is Empty. Are you sure you want to send the Mail?"
If MsgBox(Prompt$, vbYesNo + vbQuestion + vbMsgBoxSetForeground, "Check for Subject") = vbNo Then Cancel = True End If End If End Sub
6. Now whenever u try to send a mail without subject, a pop-up is raised to remind you of the blank subject.

Thx Jakes for this info....

Error message when you try to add or remove a program on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003: "The Windows Installer service could not be accessed":

This was the error message I had received.

"The Windows Installer:

I was not able to install any application on this Dell Latitude D620 Laptop.

SMS Alerts!!!!!!!

SMSGupShup.com - Review
After spending a while to find an site for SMS Groups, found this site http://www.smsgupshup.com/
Its a group to share information via SMS, and its free....
In this case only the moderator can send SMS to the group, while members cannot.
I am currently setting up this group for an NGO in our area.

Ha, the search for this site started when I went to watch Jab We Met movie, in the front row
a boy was angry with her girl friend, bcoz she used his mobile to send SMSs, he was complaining
that each SMS cost Rs.1, he was an student, must have exhausted his pocket money ;-)
Then my mind starting working and found out this site, now using this site, I can send an SMS to 250 mobile, without spending a paisa.

We never know when ideaz come, that's why its said, keep an note pad and pen next to your bed, some times ideaz comes at 12 in the night.
