Export contacts from Nokia to Blackberry

After my post about Exploring contacts from Blackberry to Nokia got couple of queries on how to transfer contacts the other way around, Nokia to Blackberry.

I found it quite easy to transfer contacts to BB from an Nokia,
1. Connect your phone using the USB cable and start Nokia PC Suite
2. Go to Contacts, Select all contacts or press Ctrl+A
3. Now click on the selected contacts and drag it to your desktop, this will save your contacts as VCF file (Vcard file)
4. Now open Outlook and drag and drop the above VCF file into your contacts
5. Once you have contacts in Outlook, you can sync your blackberry with outlook using BB Desktop Manager, this will update all your contacts on to your blackberry device.

Devices used for this task:
Blackberry 8300 with BB Desktop Manager 4.2.2.12
Nokia N73 with Nokia PC Suite 7.0.8.2

Suresh says: Hi mate Apple is now an Microsoft company, hence its a piece of cake to sync with outlook, sadly Nokia and blackberry are not.

Hi Suresh,
Is there a way i can do this transfer of contacts (nokia to BB) without using Outlook in between? Because i don't use outlook at all!

Thanks,
Navin

@Navin.
Hi, what you can do is, copy all your contacts from your Nokia to SIM.
Plug the SIM to your BB and copy addressbook from SIM to BB Addressbook.

Hi Suresh,

Thanks for your reply.

But doing that will create duplicate entries for a single contact right. So for one contact, you would have an entry each for home, office, mobile, etc.?

Thanks,
Navin

@Navin,
Have not tried this option, but the way Blackberry stores info, I guess, it can take multiple phone numbers like home and office as one User, if that's how you have entered in your Nokia contacts.

hi, i was VERY excited about this article, but after one hour of trying, i must say that it does not work as advertised for me, there is problem to get contacts to outlook:
1) i can drag-n-drop only ONE, or two or three..., but not ALL contacts to desktop; second, if i move the file, the item which i have as a name moves to "filename" in Outlook, and i need to manually rewrite/copy it onto name field in Outlook. with my 1000+ contacts impossible to do.
2) when i exported all contacts as CSV file and tried to import this one to Outlook, a "File error with CSV translator" occures.. maybe coz i have also chinese and some other than 128-ASCII chars in my list...?
All those years (10+) i was cursing the architects of PCSuite ... this is their final battle against me, but after i win it, never ever again will i buy a Nokia, i swear.

Hi, sorry to know that this method didn't work for you.

In Nokia PC Suite, to select all contacts, you can press Ctrl+A, then drag the selected contacts to the desktop, which will save each contact as VCF file, which can be again dropped in outlook contacts

as its said, once size doesn't fit all, this didn't work in ur case :(

Thanks a Lot Suresh your steps were really helpful and saved lots of time, Here is what i did, I had Lotus Notes as my Email application, however also had MS Outlook installed, the only time consuming task i had was dragging (850+) contacts from desktop to Outlook > Contacts which opened one window per contact which i had to manually "Save & Close" and then Sync with by BB. Thanks again for the steps..

my sim card only holds 200 items- there must be another way? I have spent all day trying to use nokia suite and BB software an I AM NOW TEARING MY HAIR OUT !!

When you drag your contacts from Nokia PC Suite to desktop, you will get several VCF files not just one.

You need to drag all these VCF files to Outlook to contacts.
