Internet via Nokia as Modem with Airtel

Getting an Internet connection using your mobile phone as a modem. Its “easiest” as internet connection gets activated instantly. You need to have a mobile phone that has data connectivity to PC or Laptop & data cable to connect that. Airtel offers four tariff plans to choose from:
399 plan: Rs.399/Month, 100MB Transfer,10 paisa for extra 10kbs.
599 plan: Rs.599/Month, 1 GB Transfer, 10 paisa for extra 10kbs.
799 plan: Rs.799/Month, 1.5 GB Transfer, 10 paisa for extra 10kbs.
140 plan: Rs.140/week, Unlimited usage.

140 plan is best, since it has unlimited usage & cheap compare to other plans. It will become Rs.560 if you use it for a month. All plans will come with speed up to 40kbps.Just call customer care at 121 to avail this service.

Activate Mobile Office by SMS
(this works in metro, when I tried from an small town in MP, it didn't work, you need to get it activated by calling 121)
Type MO and send it to 6123
With in 2 minutes, your Mobile Office will be activated; default plan will be 140/week, which will be billed to your monthly bill
If you want to deactivate it, then at the end of the 6 day send an SMS with
MO CMCL to 222

Set your laptop ready
Check whether modem drivers for your phone are installed. Normally this will come with your phone’s PC Suite. Installing PC Suite will install all required drivers.
Check whether your phone could be used as modem or not. (Call 121 from your Airtel mobile)
Procedure to setup a connection to dial-up your Mobile as modem.
Goto “Start–>Control Panel”
Click on “Network & Internet Connections”
Under header “Pick a task” click on “Create a connection to the network at your workspace”.
Now you will get “New Connection Wizard dialog box, select “Dial-up connection” & click next.
Dialog will ask for “Connection Name”, give whatever you would like to. I had given “airtelgprs”.
It asks for “Phone Number”, enter number as “*99***1#”
If you want select to put a shortcut on desktop (Preferred) & finish setup.
Now you will see a shortcut saying “Airtel GPRS” (In my case) on desktop. Make sure you installed your phone drivers & connect your phone. Double click the icon on desktop, leave blank “User name” & “Password” fields & click “Dial”. One message will pop-up to confirm its connected.

When you change your mobile, you need to add the Mobile Office settings to your mobile again, that you can do it by just sending an SMS.
